ALL ABOUT THERAPY

Therapy can sometimes feel a little intimidating or even scary for people who are unfamiliar with it. Some clients come in pretty skeptical or worried about what it will be like. Really, therapy is just an opportunity to sort through all the thoughts, feelings and behaviors we have with another person who isn't going to judge us. Therapy helps us to better understand ourselves and make shifts towards what we want out of life.

 

Sometimes what we want is to feel less sad, overwhelmed, anxious or stuck. We might seek out therapy around a specific behavior or problem, like trouble in romantic or work relationships. Or maybe we have experienced a loss or a traumatic event (or series of events) that feels impossible to get over and keeps interrupting our lives.  In therapy, all you need to do is show up as you are.

Reconnecting and Moving Forward: Individual, Couple and Family Counseling

The goal is always to help you deal with whatever you are dealing with in ways that feel positive and healthy. Since 2010, I have provided clients in the Chicago area a wide range of psychological and counseling services to suit their needs. I see individuals, couples and families. In regards to age, I primarily work with teens, adults and couples in my practice.

FAMILY THERAPY

Sometimes we feel like the outsider in our own families, which can feel really bad. We can feel disconnected or like no one gets us. Maybe we get into a lot of fights and really have a hard time even communicating with people in our families, which can cause a lot of sadness and frustration. The work I do in family therapy is centered on helping families come together, build or rebuild positive relationships. Family dynamics are complex and often deeply rooted. I help clients identify how the interactions we have either help us feel stuck in roles and patterns of conflict or how to learn new ways to connect and resolve issues.

COUPLES THERAPY

When we are not connecting with our partners, it adds a lot of stress in our lives. I help partners uncover what is not working, what they want out of their relationships and help them build that bridge.  In couples therapy, I work with clients to learn to build communication, trust and connection and intimacy.  In our sessions, you will deepen your understanding and connection with one another and develop some tools to help heal conflicts or avoid them all together. Whether you are a couple that struggles with connection or are a high conflict couple, sometimes we just need help from someone neutral on the outside. It can help bring you back together.

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

In individual therapy sessions, I always start with where you are. There are no "shoulds" in therapy. There is just what is and what we hope for. Together, we will identify what exactly isn't working and I'll help you build some skills to help move towards feeling better. I will help you “re-frame” your reactions and provide you with valuable tools to cope with life’s stressors. I can help you look inside yourself and understand your motivations for your behaviors and choices which can help you choose things that are more in line with the life you want. Ultimately, we'll work to help you feel better.
